Remain Unconventionally BIG

Anointings are interesting. We tend to view them as these grand gestures and callings like when David was anointed king. Anointings are God’s way of setting His people apart from others for a specific purpose, and He does this by bestowing upon us His promises and plans for our lives and we each have been anointed for something. I believe, some anointings are spoken into us through others, and sometimes they come in the form of a vision directly from God. God gives us a mental visual or word that provides a teaser insight of what He has lined up for us...but when?

Anointings are mysterious. We don’t know when they will come into fruition, but we live and learn to trust God along the way. When Samuel prophesied David to be king, it wouldn’t be for another 14 years before this would come to pass. David did not run off to bring this promise about within his own might, knowledge or power, but rather he continued to honor God in surrender, humility and obedient to His law, and it was God who elevated, prepared and built him up for the role along the way. There were times where I am sure he may have even wondered if the promise was still set in motion while he was on the run from Saul, the king at the time, who was set on killing him. However, God’s plan was inevitable, David was chosen by God, anointed, set apart to be king of Israel, and as David remained obedient and fervent in his faithfulness to God, God was preparing the way around him and within him for His plan to unfold. David did not know the date of this promise coming to pass, but the anointing was already declared therefore already set in motion.

Anointings are by God and for God. As stated, anointings identify God’s people as being set apart and chosen for a specific purpose for His kingdom. Jesus served as an example of fulfilling his anointing, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovery of sight to the blind, To set free those who are oppressed.” (Luke 4:18) This same spirit of The Lord is within us and we were given the same commission to go out and “make disciples of all the earth” (Matthew 28:19-20) but the means and time frame looks different for each of us. I have two friends who God anointed with years ago with their chosen roles for His kingdom here on earth. I remember hearing the vision God gave for them and recall seeing all of us collaborating, coming together in our specific roles for one great God honoring event. This was nearly ten years ago and despite this vision He had given me about us, at the time only two of us had specific visions, I did not. Since then, we have each went through trials, doubts and concerns about the state of our spiritual journeys and promises but they weren’t to deter us but rather prepare us. The wilderness and valleys of life has a way of exposing the truth of in whom we place our trust and how deep in our faith we are willing to dig our heels. Eventually, God brought me my specific role, and during these years and trials, by His grace, he has prepared, strengthened and built us up for each of our respective places in this great vision. And now, nearly ten years later, we went from girls with dreams to women with plans. We are now taking these bold steps across the threshold of God’s promises into the fulfillment of His will, with no intent on slowing down. Ten years ago, these visions seemed like shapeless concepts but now, they are near and form a clear picture. We have acknowledged that this vision He has given us, He anointed each of us with, to be set apart and proclaim the good news to His people. They are by Him and for Him.

Has God sown a seed of purpose within you five, ten, fifteen years ago, that seems loss as you have been in the wilderness like David? God has anointed you friend. He has not forgotten the promise He made to you (Hebrews 10:23). There is a specific vision that He has chosen you for. Let me remind you, God’s word is inevitable, and no matter how much time has went by, through repentance and turning towards Him, His calling on your life will still be on time and there will be no lack, just abundance as though you have been obedient the entire time. Reclaim that dream, take it to the well of Living Water who is Jesus and watch as the stone roll away.

Allow yourself and that calling to rise up through the resurrection power of the Holy Spirit.

“Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You, With the oil of joy above Your fellows.” Psalm 45:7

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9
