The Chase For Us

I remember when I first heard a guy ask me, “Where have you been?” It was an intimate setting and my heart fluttered at the implication of him telling me I am the one he has been looking for. Since adolescents I have carried a deep desire to be wanted, desired and chosen, to be the one someone has been looking for. Even today when I think about those words being asked to me, my heart flutters at being sought after.

I also remember The Lord’s words to me when I committed my life to Him. It was also an intimate experience where The Lord revealed to me that He has been that man looking for me all along. It was the first time I actively sought Him with all my heart, all my strength and all my mind, therefore I opened myself up to receiving His word, wisdom, understanding, and mysteries more freely.

“You wanted a man to choose you, to desire you, and to chase you. I have been the One pursuing you from the beginning.”

I have to say, it is by far the most romantic experience I have ever had. God is not about just us doing all the work and chasing Him down. No, this is actually our response to His initial search and chasing of us. We search Him, because He first searches for us (Genesis 3:9). We chase Him because He pursues us. We love Him because He first loved us (James 4:8). Our relationship with God is just that, a relationship, where whatever He has called us to do, it is because He has already done unto and for us.

I am in this wonderful season where I get to watch as He chase people around me. Although my spirit laments for these souls lost, it also rejoices for the One chasing them down. It is so beautiful to see The Lord pour out this reckless yet intentional love onto His people because He desires a relationship with them and has declared a due date for their salvation. To stand back and watch as He leaves the 99 for the 1, reminds me of at what length He will go in His love for us. I pray, I mourn and I rejoice over and over in His Spirit for these chase scenes knowing that ultimately, God always gets His person. I think of Jesus crying out for His people,

Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace!” (Luke 19:42)…

if only they knew who was chasing them and the indescribable encounter they will have at that first meeting and the abundant blessings to come through a life surrendered to His chase. And the beauty of this is, He never stops.

Even today He continuously chase us. He does not stop. This is a daily need and desire He has given us so that we may turn around and see He is still there, pursuing us, providing us with every desire He has given us (not the world; the world gives us desires as well but that’s a story for another time).

I want you all to know, He sees you and He is still very much in love with you. He chose you before and He will never stop choosing you. He never grows weary in chasing you. Everyday His mercies towards you are new, His goodness towards you is new, His grace towards you, abounds. He chased you all the way to the cross, to His death and then to life again. And I believe He will do it all over again. So turn around beloved and chosen one of The Lord, and allow yourself  to be caught.
